Chess Club

The purpose of the EHS Chess Club is to promote participation and excellence in the playing of the game of Chess while exploring the game’s educational benefits. The club will meet weekly throughout the school year. EHS team participates in the Vermont Scholastic Chess Championships each year. The tournament is April 14, 2012. We meet every Wednesday afternoon in B-120 from 2:35 until 4:30. Everyone is welcome whenever they are available.



The EHS Chess Club won the twenty-sixth annual Vermont Scholastic Chess Championships that were held on Saturday.   David Ro is the high school section champion for the fourth straight year.   David won the right to represent Vermont in the national Denker Tournament of State High School Champions which will be held in Middleton, WI from July 27th through July 30th. David scored a perfect 5 points. In the High School Team Competition, Essex High School (14.5 points) topped a competitive field, with South Burlington High School (13 points) in second place and Lamoille Union High School (10 points) in third.   Essex’s Chess Club was represented by David Ro, Cole Blondin, Josh Paroline, Misty Earisman, David Ro, Dylan Randall, and Adam Petrucci.   Cole Blondin only lost to David Ro.   Daniel Ro won a match with only 1 second left on the clock.   Tournament officials said that was a first.   Please congratulate these students if you see them.   They represented EHS very well!
